Avalokiteshvara and Tara

Sculpture represents the images of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara and Tara. Both are in Padamasana attitude (cross legged) and hold a long stalk lotus in left hand. Right hand of both deities are in varada mudra (boon position). Image of Dhyani Buddha Amitabh appears on the top of the stella, under an umbrella and flanked by two miniature stupas in both sides.On the beneath of pedestal, a Buddhist creed is inscribed

The Kurkihar hoard represents a rare set of 226 bronzes, mostly Buddhist, dating to between the 9th and 12th centuries CE, which were found in Kurkihar near Gaya in the Indian state of Bihar. The village of Kurkihar is situated about 5 km. north-east of Wazirgunj, and 27 km east from Gaya. The inscriptions found suggest that Kurkihar was once a well-known international pilgrimage centre. A great portion of this collection is preserved in the Indian museum, Kolkata. Some of collection can also be found in the British Museum, London. All images are produced by lost wax method.
