06 4:00 – 6:30 VISIT: Drishyakala Museum (Red Fort) Only for presenters
In a rare partnership, DAG has collaborated with ASI to create an art museum—Drishyakala—within Red Fort with four historical exhibitions that look at the arrival and development of realistic and modern art in India. The journey starts with the first-ever complete showcasing of Oriental Scenery: Aquatints of India by Thomas and William Daniell, providing a glimpse of eighteenth century Indian landscapes from the vantage of the European traveller. The narrative then turns to people:Freedom’s Panoply: A Portrait of a People captures a changing India through its people, and seeks to understand a portrait of our people and the remarkable times they lived through. The rise of an indigenous printing industry gave rise to a new brand of bazaar art. Popular Prints and the Freedom Struggle showcases how the art of the printed picture became a tool to disseminate an emerging nationalist ideal. Navratna: India’s National Treasure Artists showcases India’s nine National Treasure Artists who together represent a diversity of art traditions and movements but are unified by one common thread: a return to Indian roots through context, theme, subject and an engagement with identity.
